FK-Series check valve for hydrogen

Check valves for hydrogen applications

FK-Series check valve

This Swagelok® check valve is specifically designed for hydrogen filling station applications. It allows one-way flow and provides a highly reliable shut-off for low molecular weight gases. The valve prevents backflow when the differential pressure falls below the opening pressure.

Note: Not for use as a safety relief valve.

Key product features:

ISO 19880-3 process (100 000 cycles).

Pressure rating: 1050 bar (15 229 psig ) .

Temperature range: -40°C-85°C (-40°F-185°F).

High flow coefficient: up to 4.5 Cv.

Body material construction: 316 SS with >12% Ni

Why are high quality components essential for hydrogen applications?

The future of hydrogen as a fuel depends on the safety and long-term durability of the systems. Given the low molecular weight of hydrogen, all valves and components must be particularly leak-proof, reliable and durable. The use of the right materials and technologies, such as stainless steels and seals resistant to hydrogen fracture, is key.

Characteristics and requirements for hydrogen valves:

Valves used in hydrogen systems must meet a number of requirements to ensure safety, durability and functionality. These requirements include:

  • Tight joints and durable construction: valves must be made of high quality materials that can withstand high pressures and repeated use.
  • Design features that improve safety: For example, solutions that prevent parts from becoming loose or damaged during use.
  • Pressure resistance: Valves must be compatible with the requirements of hydrogen systems, such as withstanding pressures of 350-700 bar.
  • Resistance to temperature and pressure fluctuations: Valve seals and other components must perform reliably under varying conditions.
  • Hydrogen embrittlement prevention: The materials used must be of high quality and designed to withstand the stresses of hydrogen, such as embrittlement.
  • Compatibility with other system components: Valves shall be compatible with hydrogen components without leakage risks or material problems.

By considering these characteristics in their entirety, you can contribute to a safer hydrogen system. The long-term success of hydrogen technology depends on carefully selected components.

Swagelok offers expert services and a comprehensive range of ball valves, needle valves, check valves and other hydrogen components that support system safety and reliability.
