Notification of changes: update of the installation instructions for FK fittings
The FK series line offers industry-leading performance and quality for high-pressure applications. While Swagelok's previous installation guides provide a safe and efficient way to achieve the expected quality and performance, we have developed an improved method for installations that ensures consistent and repeatable results.
Note: No action is required on connectors already installed, but the new guidelines should be followed in the future.
Proper tube bottoming has always been a requirement for assembly. We are including additional detail for chamfering the outer diameter of the tube within the tube preparation section of FK assembly instructions.
- Apply a chamfer to the outer diameter of the tube. This can be applied through use of chamfer blocks (316 SS tube only), file, belt sander, or other method.
- The FK series tube adapters have a chamfer on the outside diameter of the machined tube end that can be used as a visual reference (example shown for SS-6FK0-R-8FK).
- The chamfer length shall not extend into the front ferrule sealing area. To prevent this, the chamfer must be shorter than the minimum length (L) that the tube must protrude into the connector. The lengths are shown in the table (Figure ).

- Confirm the chamfered tube will fully bottom in the fitting body.
- The tube should spin freely in the fitting body without restriction.
- If restrictions are felt when spinning the tube, additional chamfering or deburring of the tube outer diameter is required.
